Help needed: GPIO and Ubuntu 18 Problem

Hello.
I've followed the instructions to install the Kernel on Ubuntu 18. Everything seems to have gone smoothly especially when doing uname -a.
However, after the mraa install, mraa-gpio list I keep getting no pins listed .
The only difference that I can see between the instructions and my uname output is that the version seems a tad newer.
Ideas and advices on how to make changes so that I can access the GPIO and pwm in particular are much appreciated!
