Up Squared booting with random behavior.
Hi,
I have been using Up Squared in one of my robotics projects. Out of 15 I bought, 1 is showing random behavior when it is turned ON. Sometimes it doesn't boot at all. Sometimes it boots after 5-6 minutes, sometimes it starts booting and then reboots again and again.
I'm using 5V 6A supply to power up the board with Ubuntu 16.04 OS with ROS framework running on the top of it.
I'm not able to find out the problem since the other 14 boards don't have any such problem.
Help would be appreciated.

if it is one out of 15 and you are using the same setup, the only thing I can suggest is to try to update the BIOS with the latest version and if still the same behaviour, apply for RMA on the shop where you bought it.

Ok, I'll check the BIOS version and if the same persists, then I'll apply RMA on the distributor.

Hi,
Actually these UP-squared are working out of my robot assembly, but not inside.
Can you let me know why this is happening? -
I don't know what is your hardware setup so it is difficult to understand why it is happening.
There could be something wrong with the power provided to the board inside the robot.
Can you please provide more details?

Hi ,
I am providing the power to the board using a DC-DC converter from Meanwell 5V, 6A (part number: DDR-30G-5) which is fed from 24V LFP battery. Datasheet of the converter can be found from:-
https://www.meanwell-web.com/en-gb/dc-dc-ultra-slim-industrial-din-rail-converter-ddr--30g--5
Apart from the board, there is nothing to which I'm supplying the 5V. I'm connecting the DC barrel jack of the board to the output of the converter directly.
The problem of rebooting is very uncertain, it happens abruptly and sometimes it gets rectified either by itself or by changing the converter. But even after changing the converter, the rebooting problem starts happening again after a week or so.
Please help us to rectify this issue.
Thanks, -
does the reboot happen if you power directly from the power source via standard PSU (5V6A like the one available in out shop)?
-
no, it doesn't reboot when we power directly from standard PSU
-
Then the problem is definitely in the combination of Battery and DC-DC converter.
I think the voltage might not be stable (within range) during current spikes required by the system.

We have changed the DC-DC converter from Meanwell to CUI Inc., we are testing it and will let you know the results. Thanks,
-
Hi we got better results after using it with CUI Inc DC- DC converter.
