ACPI - WakeUp possible?
Is it possible to send an alarm to
echo 0 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm
echo 1545390000 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm
to program with a Unixtime, then shut down the system and now the system must automatically turn itself on again?
My previous attempts unfortunately fail.
What am I possibly doing wrong?

Thanks for your info. I'm just testing with MLD-5.4 stable with the Intel output device (vaapi). So far everything works very well.
ACPI Wakeup works when I put the up2squared board to sleep via Suspend2RAM.Why does ACPI Wakeup not work with a normal shutdown -h now? Is this a bug?
-
Can this ACPI wakeup function be delivered by a BIOS update?
-
Hi @uwes ,
What is your BIOS version currently?
-
Hi @ccalde
I use the latest published BIOS: UP Squared UEFI BIOS V4.0. -
Hi @uwes ,
Yes, that is the latest UPSqured BIOS available.
Could you please explain step by step your issue with the ACPI Wakeup and shutdown command?
-
Hi @uwes ,
I checked the BIOS settings and maybe you need to set the RTC options to be enabled for the system.
Please check it in "Advanced -> Power Management -> RTC wake system from".
It could be disabled by default normally. You must change that configuration and try again. -
With every Intel/AMD board it is possible to configure an ACPI alarm under Linux. How this is done is described in Post 1.
The alarm is a Unixtime, see here: https://www.unixtime.de/ The alarm must be in the future.
An alarm for today 5 o'clock in the afternoon is programmed as follows:echo 0 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm
echo 1550073600 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm
shutdown -h nowThis works with an Intel Nuc, Beelink X45 or another X86 computer.
Why doesn't this work with the Up Squared?
You also don't have to activate anything in the bios as described by you.
With "echo 0 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm" the alarm is deactivated.
With "echo 1550073600 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm" an alarm is programmed.
"1550073600" is the Unixtime alarm. -
Hi @uwes ,
Yes, I understand. The BIOS settings is only to fix a time alarm specific or to set a time in minutes before booting.
However, if both options are disable, the RTC alarm via Linux is not programmed properly.
I will do some tests to verify where is exactly the issue. Thanks for the update!

Perfect, many thanks.

Hi @uwes,
As we suspected, the BIOS is overriding the OS parameters for ACPI wakeup.
So, in this moment the only way is to set the alarm from BIOS settings. We are reporting the question to BIOS team to find a solution
-
Hello @ccalde,
Thank you for troubleshooting.
I am looking forward to a positive feedback from the BIOS team. -

That sounds good! I hope also my problem will be solved ....

Hi @ccalde
Is there anything new here yet? -
Hi @uwes ,
Sorry but unfortunately we didn't receive any feedback from BIOS team yet...
-
Not well !!
-
Hello @ccalde ,
I'm still waiting for good news.
How far is the work on the new bios going? -
Hello ccalde,
Meanwhile 10 months have passed and apparently there is no Bios update for the ACPI update yet. You could understand the problem! Any X86 mainboard can do ACPI wakeup.
Why don't you want to help me?
Where is the problem?I bought a board where ACPI wakeup should work, according to your manufacturer.
I urge you as manufacturer to deliver this ACPI wakeup feature with one of the next bios-updates.
Yours sincerely

Hi @uwes
We are looking into it and trying to resolve the issue with the next BIOS release.
Thanks for the feedback!
-
Hi @DCleri
I would be very happy about a short bios release. -
@DCleri Me too!
-
In the meantime 11 months have passed and there is no solution in sight....
Is there at least a pre-release that i can test?Please, i need ACPI-Wakeup!
-
Hi @DCleri,
I encountered the same issue in Up Core - /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm does not wake the machine.. do you have any workaround for that?
Thanks
-
Hello UP board manufacturer,
I think it is a great pity that a very important feature for my Up2Squared board will not be available anymore.
You did not manage to fix the ACPI Wakeup within one year. I will now get out and swap this board for another manufacturer.I hope for the future that you will provide more support for people who buy your boards.
Bye
-
Hi All,
We have an updated BIOS with a fix for that issue which has been verified already internally and it works.
We are now finalising the testing before the release of the new BIOS and we expect to do it in the coming weeks.
I will keep you posted.

Wow! After over two years ...

Great, thanks to AAEON and all players for the ACPI wakeup (RTC wakeup).
