[SOLVED] Upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04
I see the installation notes for Ubuntu 18.04 are now on the Wiki. https://wiki.up-community.org/Ubuntu
Is it possible to upgrade an existing Ubuntu 16.04 system to 18.04 using Software Updater as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/ReleaseNotes#Upgrading_from_Ubuntu_16.04_LTS_or_17.10
Or does it need to be installed fresh from the ISO?
I've upgraded BIOS to UCR1BM17 and have installed kernel 4.15.0 for UP

Hi @kengs ,
These instructions should work for your case:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to-upgrade-from-ubuntu-linux-16-04-to-18-04/Please, confirm if that is correct from your side.

Thanks. I went ahead and upgraded to 18.04 as described above. Then following the Wiki instructions updated the kernel. So far so good and it booted up.
Then when I went to install firmware-ampak I got an error. So I then ran
sudo apt-get remove --purge firmware-ampak-ap6214a
followed by
sudo apt install firmware-ampak
and that worked. Everything seems ok and the built-in wifi seems more stable so far. -
That's is great!
Thanks for the reply. We will close the discussion.
Cheers!
