framebuffer resolution

How to set resolution for console? For example, when ctrl+alt+F1 key is pressed.
Or when I don't use X11.
And how to set resolution right after boot, for bios and some menus? It is HD by default but it would be cool to change it.
(I am going to try to output some OpenGL data without X11, directly to framebuffer with help of EGL. Which in theory could be faster than X...)

Try e.g.
fbset -xres 1024 -yres 768 -match
or see e.g. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB/Tips_and_tricks#Setting_the_framebuffer_resolution -
'xrandr --fb 1920x1080' works!
