Best method to connect an extra SATA SSD disk

What is the best method to connect an extra SATA SSD disk?
It seems to me that an USB3 to SATA connector is the best solution, but am I missing any options?

    No you are not ;)
    If you are going to connect an SSD I strongly suggest you use a USB3 to SATA bridge.
    Also please note that the UP board comes with a USB3 OTG port (micro USB3).

    My post was from 4 months ago, more recent tests from us and the community highlighted the instability issues with USB3.0 and storage devices (more when using the uas driver).

    For now the ssd shield, also available in the UP shop, is the best option.

    Interesting board!

    Would it not limit the SSD to a fraction of USB2.0 speed?

    I've bench marked my SSD over USB3.

    Benchmark results

    Its running of a hub mind with lots of other things attached!

    OCZ and a old SSD from 5 years ago.

    No problems at all. I think we got trolls on the forum as this SBC is superb. I use one in my garage/workshop linked with 100M of ethernet to do my backups off site so to speak.

    Trolls..? Actually the issues with USB3 are confirmed by UP and even by intel...
    Are you sure yours is usb3, to start with..?

    Not sure if its been mentioned yet, but we've noticed that using the following cable can make a BIG difference to the stability of USB3.0 connections:

    If you're seeing stability issues with USB3.0 harddisks or sata adapters, I suggest giving that cable a try if you can.

    I have an OTG USB 3.0 and have attached a plugable USB 3.0 docking station to give me 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports, gigabit ethernet, 2 more displays and audio in out.

    Works a charm and has been working for 2 months now without a hitch! Even added a blutooth 4 device so i can play music from android devices through my up board.

    I have a USB 3.0 2TB HDD attached for backups (cwRsync for windows) and user storage + apps.

    Wrote this on my Up board win 10 from my workshop.

    Well, you mentioned trolls in the forum but you don't do much to add to your own credibility. Docking station? which one? 2 more displays? Really? Which USB3 storage are you using? Oh, I thought you mentioned you were using an SSD last time but it is now an HDD.
    Can you substantiate your claims in any way?

    No I bench marked the SSD for the guy that wanted to see some to be helpful.

    I described my day to day usage in my last post that is all.

    I said the make very clearly. Its a Plugable USB 3.0 docking station.

    I've had good success with a pi drive (http://wdlabs.wd.com/products/wd-pidrive-314gb/) connected with a short USB 3 Micro B to USB A OTG adapter and a short USB A to USB 3 Micro B cable. Oddly enough, the pi drive never actually worked well with the raspberry pi. It has been working flawlessly with the Up Board though.
