Ubuntu 16.04 Linux running retropie

We have enjoyed retro pie and wanted to see if the up board would perform better on running emulators. First hurdle was getting retro pie installed. We found not everything installs by default and some emulators are missing. Second was getting sound to output. We loaded the 4.4 patch for cherrytrail. Which was not easy for a novice to install.
I am still working on fine tuning game play and would like to know if any one else has had luck please let me know .
