UP Metal Fanless Chassis
Hi all,
we have designed a fanless metal chassis for UP.
With it, UP can works fanless up 50 degrees Celsius of external environmental temperature without need of air flow.
The chassis is a square of 86x86 mm and as a little space inside because we would like to integrate a wifi+bluetooth ( if we find a good one )connected to the 2 internal USB.
We have designed 2 metal plate VESA 75x75 and VESA 100x100 compatible.
We will sell in our webshop and through our distribution partners and resellers.
The price should be around 20 USD.

The smaller the better.
A wifi/BT adaptor will not work from within a metal enclosure, unless you manage to bend the laws of physics... -

when does it come in the shop? -
It may take 6 weeks to be available in the UP shop. We will sell both chassis only and system level. For system level, we are thinking to start with 4GB/32GB SKU. Any other suggestion ?

This looks perfect for our needs and the sooner it's available the better. Is there going to be a version available to fit boards with a HAT? I'm thinking specifically of the 502SSD - mSATA Solid State Drive Shield?

Hi,
we didn't yet developed the version that support the HAT. The reason is that we are struggling in deciding which HATs we should support inside ( it's not easy to have a version to support many different HAT).
But we have received similar comments from many other people.

We didn't finalize it ( we are working on the internal part where we would like to integrate the wifi module connected to internal USB

The plastic chassis will be ready in the middle of October. ( Our supplier just ship it to us today).
The metal chassis will be introduced in December. -

Its now mid December, so what is the status on this?

We just received the systems built with this metal chassis from our factory today, so we will put it on UP shop probably by end of this week . The chassis is scheduled to arrive around mid of January ( yep..we are late again..sorry), but we look forward to a surprise from our factory to receive it earlier.

Does it work with the extended heatsinks? What about options for boards with HATs?

As this chassis is already CE/FCC proof and ready for industrial environment, therefore it is real industrial grade chassis. Of course, we would like to work out more competitive price if we can have stable order in large quantity.
In the meanwhile, we are working on a maker use metal chassis, it will be much cheaper.
The shipping cost is always our pain, and we are engaging more and more resellers, so that you can buy locally.
