USB3 SSD Issues

I just tried to install an OS that works fine on the MMC (Ubuntu) on an external USB3 SSD and I encountered issues.
The SSD is a Kingston SSDNow mS200 mSATA mounted on a USB3 adaptor based on ASMedia Technology (ASMT) 2115 and connected to the USB3 OTG port.
The device works fine with other computers but Ubuntu installation fails as if the disk had i/o errors / bad blocks.
The power supply is a lab device that can supply 5A and consumption never reaches 1.5A.
Anyone had similar issues / has suggestions?
thank you.
