Hello,
Today I received the USB 2.0 pin header cables (Reference: OPT-UP-CABLE-USB-002).
However, they came without any explanation whatsoever. Specifically, in addition to the micro connector there is an additional 3-terminal pin header.
I can only guess this is to be connected to the GPIO to boost the ability to drive current... but i dont want to take any chances.
Could you please kindly provide the related documentation?
thank you.

Hi MarcFinns,
You only need to connect the micro pin header to the UP Board.
The 3-pin connector is the UART debug port to access the UP Board via serial console.
We will add the documentation in our Wiki shortly, thanks for reporting. -

Hi MarcFinns,
I think what you are looking for is in our Wiki: https://up-community.org/wiki/Serial_console#Using_the_provided_adapter -
Hi,
is it possible to use the Serial port as Standard Serial port in the OS? I Need two Serial comm ports and guess this one would be suited.
Can anyone tell me, what connector type it is please? JST micro? I do not Need the USBs. Just the Serial Pins. -
Hi
It is possible to use it as a standard serial port in the OS. It support baud rates up to 115200. However, depending on which OS distro you're using, you may need to tell the OS not to use it as a system console though (that is the case with ubilinux at least). Also, you may want to change BIOS settings to prevent the BIOS using it in the same way.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that, in ubilinux, that serial port can be accessed via /dev/ttyS0. This may differ on other distros or with different kernel configurations.

OS is Win 10 IoT 32Bit.
any idea of where to get the connectors? I could buy These OPT-UP-CABLE-USB-002 and cut the USB, but if I could get the connector with loose cable ends, I would be very pleased. -
I bought some on ebay once. The link I had is no longer valid, but this was the title of the item that I purchased at the time, in case it helps:
"Micro JST 1.0 10-Pin Connector Plug with Wire x 10 sets" -
Thank you very much.
