failed to install Ubuntu 16.04 for Up Core Plus

Hello,
I tried to install Ubuntu 16.04 for Up Core Plus (Atom® x5-E3930), but failed even to load install. Though I watched install menu, when loading installer, the following message shows up and returns back to boot.

Regarding "TPM error", by disabling secure boot in BIOS it doesn't show up anymore.

I tried to search the error "Couldn't get size: ...", and it seems to be related with secure boot,
but I cannot find any solution.

Giving me any advices are really helpful.

Could you please tell which BIOS version and which Ubuntu version exactly are you using?

I did the same way as in you pointed URL and

Ubuntu version :16.04.6 (using ubuntu-16.04.6-desktop-amd64.iso)
BIOS version:
UPC-PLUS R1.0 (UPCPSM10)(02/19/2019)
I updated BIOS by reading the following URL

There isn't TPM on UP Core Plus, only fTPM and it is not used by default nor secure boot.

Please make sure the BIOS settings are the default ones, you can reset them either unplugging the RTC battery and re-plug after a minute, or within the BIOS itself, select reset to default.

Can you install the system then?

Thanks for detail advice.
I have restored BIOS options, unplugged RTC battery and waited for a few minutes.
Then I found nothing changed.

When booting Ubuntu installer with USB memory, there comes the same messages I attached before
and rebooting. Before rebooting Ubuntu seems to be loaded (watched start up LOGO for a minute).

I checked out BIOS menu and found the message "TPM20 Device Found".
I attached its screen.

Could please check and any other options to try ?

We have tried the same settings and same BIOS (by default it looks exactly like yours ) and we can install Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 18.04 without issues: https://wiki.up-community.org/Ubuntu

Do you have any other device connected to the UP Core Plus?

Can you please describe me your hardware setup (cables, connections, peripherals)?

I unplugged RTC battery and tried to install Ubuntu, however, after selecting "Install Ubuntu", there came 2 errors followed by Ubuntu loading screen, went back to install menu.

Here is my environment:

• DP - HDMI adapter (active one by UGREEN brand)
• HDMI monitor (1080p)
• USB keyboard and wireless mouse via USB3.0 HUB
• AC adaptor
• 16GB USB Memory (ADATA)

and I found some sorts of glue at the edge of the board (see attached picture. you can find it at the direction of black arrow)

If you have nothing wrong with my environment, I would apply for RMA.
I would like to try Up Core Plus as soon as possible.

I've got returned UPCore+ few days ago and tried to install Ubuntu.
However, the situation seems to be the same as for older one.

Could you please your success procedure for installing Ubuntu exactly ?

• do you write Ubuntu image via Windows or Mac ?
• how do you connect display ?
• how do you connect USB memory, keyboard, mouse.
• what kind of USB hub do you use ?
• and more things ...

As you can see from the picture, the board you sent back is working properly, the only difference that I can see is the fact you are using a HDMI to DP adapter, while I am using a DP cable.
The USB Stick used is a Sandisk, but also others should work. We flash the Ubuntu image (Ubuntu 16.04.6 Desktop) using the tool Etcher as described in our wiki: https://wiki.up-community.org/Ubuntu#Install_Ubuntu_for_UP.2C_UP2.2C_UP_Core_and_UP_Core_Plus
The PSU is a 12v5A, which is available from our shop.

Have you downloaded the Ubuntu image directly from the official website?

I did to try to use different USB stick (SanDisk Extreme Pro) and also failed to install.

Today I tried to change AC adaptor to change bigger one and did to install Ubuntu successfully.

As in https://wiki.up-community.org/Hardware_Specification_UP2

• Power Supply Specifications
  • Without sata hard drive/celeron boards
  • 5VDC @4A 5.5/2.1 mm jack
  • With sata hard drive/pentium boards and for full USB current capability
  • 5VDC @6A 5.5/2.1 mm jack

However it seems to be 12V6A for UP Core Plus only with display (without any other devices).

UP Squared is one board and it requires a 5V PSU, another board is UP Core Plus which requires a 12V PSU.

Power 12V@5A DC in 5.5/2.1mm jack

The PSU we have in our shop for UP Core Plus is 12V5A and it is plenty to run the board with any kind of expansion connected.

If you have a 12V6A PSU, probably the voltage is not stable enough and it drops below 12V under load, causing the system to not behave properly.

In order to properly setup the UP Core Plus, you must install the specific Kernel and WiFi drivers.

For UP Core Plus, as you don't have a USB to ethernet adapter, the best way is to follow the instructions on how to install it locally:

I finally installed and executed our prototype with OpenVINO in the same way as with UP and UP2.
I had to say that the biggest issue was my misunderstanding due to thinking about UP and UP2.

I will proceed to evaluate UPCorePlus.
