[SOLVED] Temporary Swap

I was trying to compile something last night, I got an error saying I was out of virtual memory. Knowing that it's not a great idea for flash storage to use swap, I understand that one wouldn't want that by default. However when I tried running building a temporary swap partition, I couldn't run mkswap or swapon/off. Is this something ubilinux removed, or am I crazy?
I'm going to switch to Lubuntu for now because the program I was trying to compile last night has a PPA, so I may be able to get around this for now, but I'd like to know for future reference how to activate a temporary swap (especially since 1GB of RAM is a bit small these days).

Hi Duald,
I tried to enable a swap file on ubilinux and it works fine on my side.
I am preparing a quick tutorial to add to our wiki/documentation so you could try it again.
I'll keep you posted! -
Just added a simple tutorial to our wiki: https://up-community.org/wiki/Enable_Swap_on_ubilinux

Thanks, I will may also do this when I receive my Up board.
I thought I would note, that one place I have bookmarked for setting up my different systems is:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-add-swap-on-ubuntu-14-04
Which has some good information. Not sure if the tweaks will apply here or not, but thought I would mention this link -
That is exactly what I tried the first time. I'll try it again after I reinstall tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

So, something must have been going on in my previous install of ubilinux to not allow me to build swap like a normal system would. This time after reinstalling, a quick update, and restart of the machine, I was able to make a four gigabyte swap on my UpBoard and compile the project. Now I just gotta figure out some other settings to make this more friendly as a kiosk display and we're in business! Perhaps when done, I'll post a project log.

Please do!
We will soon enable a project section where the people from the community will be able to publish their work.
