Intel Media SDK on Ubuntu?
Is it possible to run the Intel Media SDK on Ubuntu? I'm trying to follow the instructions here:
https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/build-and-debug-open-source-media-stack
I'm unable to build the 4.14.16 kernel, so my kernel is listed as 4.10.0-42-generic. With the 4.10.0-42-generic kernel, libva fails to work. The install fails with the error:
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns -1
That seems to mean that the driver isn't working. So is that the correct way to build the Intel Media SDK? And if not, is there a preferable way to get a 4k encoder to work in realtime?
Thanks!

Not sure if anyone else runs into this, but it looks like the problem was with the intel drivers. So I'm formatting the board and trying again. That causes new problems because the intel update tool is missing, but that's a separate post. Please consider this topic closed.
