RE: Access to UART port

Hi
I've got the cable supplied by UP to beakout the CN7. Its got 2 USBs and 1 x UART.
I would like to access the UART in Windows 10.
All I can see in Device Manager is COM1.
Do I need to install any other drivers?
PS: I would like to connect to a different device that uses UART for comms
Thanks

hi JasonS,
you should not need any additional driver. i would enjoy testing this COM1 port too... the COM1 cable has 3 wires coloured black, red and white. I suppose the black cable is ground, Question : is the red cable = Tx and white = Rx or the opposite?... -
Sorry for my last POST : although only described for the UP-board , the cabling should be a priori identical to this one:

(i did not test it yet and will provide the answer as soon as possible) -
Hey there
I don't think there is access to the CN7 UART0 in Windows. There is a UART1 on the 100pin header which I think is mapped to COM1. So UP-CORE has no access to COM ports/UARTs at the moment ... unless you have a breakout board for the 100pin connector.
This is my understanding ..... happy to be told different. -
I think it could be driver-related.

Ok, what should UART0 on CN7 show up as on Windows Device Manager? COM0, COM1, COM2??
-
AlingWu,
Why isnt this driver in the UP CORE Downloads section??
Have you successfully used UART0 on CN7 with Windows 10? -
Is there any documentation on how to actually install these drivers from the link you provided?
-
Hi,
It is a little bit embarrassing the download section drive is full. We are working on expanding it and put all drivers there.
We still need to work on documentation for how to install Windows 10 on UP Core.
Anyone is willing to help? -
Thanks AlingWu
Your driver download link still points to non-working Wifi driver ... and the UART0 is still not found by device manager even after installing the Silabs drivers.
I'm guessing we as a community are finding these problems because the UP CORE has not been tested with Windows yet.
Do you have a support/technical division that is able to install windows and work through the issues?
It is embarrassing ... we have these nifty little PCs with promised functionality but cant use them yet!
Appreciate that you may be stuck in what help you can provide ... but how many people have to buy an UP CORE for AAEON to put some resource into sorting these issues out!!

Hi Jason,
Our technician just showed me today about how to install wifi in Windows.
When you install wifi driver, please put 43430r1nram.txt to C:WIndows\System32\drivers
For UART0, I will ask our technician to check it.
I hope this will help.
Cheers

To UART0 question,
please check your COM Port list in device manager, and you will find a COM port and I/O range is 03F8 in device resources properties
if you can find it on device manager list, that's UART0.
PS., COM number is control by windows, to assigning COM Port Numbers with windows registry. so you will see different ID number of COM on winodws
