Multichannel HDMI audio passthrough

I (like many others, i presume) was planning on using the UP-board as a video player. I can't, however, get passthrough of multichannel digital audio to work on the HDMI port. Is this supported on the HW? Is there anyway to get it working in linux? Thanks!
