We've just received our board yesterday and were very surprised by the size of the heat sink.
How are we expected to mount the board into other enclosures?
The best way we can currently think of is to remove and modify the heat sink to accept standoffs...

If you are going to put UP Squared into UP metal chassis, you have to remove the heatsink from UP Squared board.

I'm thinking of enclosures outside of the UP Squared product line.
The board mounting locaitons now interfere with the heat sink.
We've taken steps to modify the heat sink, but it would have been nice for mounting locations to have been preserved.
It really appears as if the heat sink was an afterthought, a quick-fix to mitigate a heat issue. -
I don't really see the problem. The heatsink is attached with 4 screws, just replace those screws with brass standoffs.

The heatsink is presumably there for a reason.
We don't want to run into overheating/failure issues down the road.
Just saying that for a future revision, mounting holes would be appreciated. -
I wasn't telling you to remove the heatsink, you can just replace the screws with standoffs -- the heatsink will stay attached but now you can design a case where you mount the board from the standoffs.

We ended up modifying the heatsink to accomodate standoffs.

@Version 2. Can you show us the picture of your final solution and what the problem you had ? It is quite difficult to judge what is the problem without pictures.
In metal chassis , the heatsink of the chassis is good enough to replace the original heatsink.
In plastic chassis, you replace the screw on the heatsink with stand-off in the package. -

By the way, AlingWu, do you have an idea of the screw charectristics of the original standoffs? (the one fixing the heatsink on the main pcb)
ISO or imperial, thread, max lenghth ?
this question is "just in case" you have this info under your arm. Don't bother if your don't find it

standoff must have 2.5 iso thread, 4mm long for the thread itself
... just in case someone need this kind of info
