Issue Description:

Dear forum.up-community.org Administrators,

I am reaching out to address a notable interest and engagement surrounding the topic of "Multi-Region Kafka" on your platform. Recent interactions and threads on forum.up-community.org indicate a growing dialogue concerning this technical concept, which involves deploying and managing Kafka clusters across multiple geographical regions for improved fault tolerance, scalability, and data locality.

While forum.up-community.org primarily serves as a platform for discussions related to UP community boards and development projects, the discussion of technical topics like Multi-Region Kafka introduces significant complexity and requires careful management and oversight.

The proliferation of discussions regarding Multi-Region Kafka without adequate context, guidance, or moderation poses several potential risks, including:

Misinformation: Discussions lacking expert guidance may inadvertently disseminate inaccurate information or misconceptions about Multi-Region Kafka deployment strategies and best practices, leading to confusion or misguided implementation strategies among participants.

Operational Challenges: Implementing effective Multi-Region Kafka architectures involves intricate configurations, data replication strategies, and network optimizations to ensure data consistency and low-latency access across regions. Discussions without proper oversight may overlook critical aspects of deployment and management, potentially resulting in data inconsistencies, performance bottlenecks, or operational challenges.

Resource Management: Multi-Region Kafka deployments require careful resource planning and allocation to support data replication, network bandwidth, and storage requirements across multiple regions. Discussions lacking expert guidance on resource management may inadvertently lead to under-provisioning, over-provisioning, or inefficient resource utilization, impacting both performance and cost-effectiveness.

Given the technical nature of this topic and its critical importance for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of Kafka-based messaging systems, it is imperative for forum.up-community.org to provide adequate support and guidance to community members engaging in discussions on Multi-Region Kafka.

Therefore, I recommend the following actions:

Provide Expert Guidance: Encourage the participation of experts or professionals with relevant experience in Multi-Region Kafka to contribute to discussions, share insights, best practices, and offer practical advice to forum members.

Moderation Protocols: Develop and implement moderation protocols to ensure that discussions on Multi-Region Kafka adhere to community guidelines, remain constructive, and avoid spreading misinformation or promoting risky practices.

Educational Resources: Offer educational resources, tutorials, or guides on Multi-Region Kafka to help forum members deepen their understanding of the topic and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to design, deploy, and manage Multi-Region Kafka architectures effectively.

By addressing these concerns proactively, forum.up-community.org can maintain its reputation as a valuable platform for UP community members while fostering a supportive and informed community around technical topics like Multi-Region Kafka.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
James Bard

For anyone who is going to get one of these kits, and wants to get the whole shebang back up and as close to modern as possible, here's what I had to do.

Ubuntu 18.04.2 UP instructions worked perfectly! Yay! I was able to blink leds via the file system echo > ... calls.

librealsense v1.12.1 is the last version to support the r200. It doesn't compile any longer. I had to #include in archive.h, types.h in the librealsense source.
2a. I could get the examples to compile, but getting them working with the freeglut library ended up killing video playback in chrome/firefox. So, I decided to live without some samples...

I used these instructions for opencv 4: https://www.pyimagesearch.com/2018/08/15/how-to-install-opencv-4-on-ubuntu/ -- this mostly worked, but the final build directory location is incorrect. It's in /usr/local/lib/python...

I followed these instructions for netflix: https://linuxconfig.org/watch-netflix-on-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux -- it worked.

I followed these instructions for sling: https://linuxconfig.org/watch-sling-tv-with-firefox-on-linux -- it worked, with a warning. Warning -- get chrome first, then do this. Firefox will detect as Windows Chrome after the useragent hack, and downloading chrome becomes difficult.

I'm still hacking on getting all items to work, If I can get it all to work, I'll reply to this thread with any changes. Hopefully, anyone else who wants all this to work on an Up board will find this useful... So far, I've burned through about 50% of the 32gb eMMC, just installing libs/compiling...

I might go all the way and try to get ROS working as well, anyone get Melodic Morenia up and running on an UP board + realsense + garmin lidar lite in ubuntu 18.04 Desktop?

Hi All,

I'm trying to demonstrate debugging/tracing Intel hardware via DCI interface (or SVTCCA) using OTS hardware, and I've read that some of the UP system kits explicitly support this via MSR settings (IA32_DEBUG_INTERFACE) as well as exposed BIOS options (HDCIEN, etc).

Can anyone recommend a UP system kit that they have experience with DCI debugging working out of the box? Or, if not out of the box, merely requiring a simple firmware update? I'm trying to avoid hacking bios registers and rolling my own system support for DCI.

Because this is for demonstration, the actual hardware capabilities of the system are not important. I'm ideally looking for Intel CPU/PCH of 6th to 10th generation, which are the limits of my Intel SS 2020 release.

Thanks!

I'm writing to ask about the UP LoRa Node. It's not clear to me exactly what it does or how it works. What I'm looking for is a device which is programmed and ready to transmit LoRa signals to the local gateway. I can't tell whether the UP LoRa node does this. Is it a ready-to-go product or a development platform for which I need to write low level firmware? There is mention of ready-to-go firmware but I can't find any description of what that firmware does. The user manual goes into great detail on how to set the keys but says nothing about how to make a transmission (step 5 is "connect to gateway" and there is no step 6!). It also talks about Grove Cables and USB to RS232 converters - are these included in the kit or do they need to be purchased separately? Are they necessary for learners or will it work out of the box?

Could someone give me a basic summary of this device please?

Many thanks and best wishes.

Ive compiled the samples through Intel system studio, but if I terminal into the computer vision sdk directory and try to activate openvino with source /bin/setupvars.sh to try to then compile it doesnt work. Just says no such file or directory even though the files are there.

I have faced to booting problem on Vxworks7.
When I used orginal Up2 BIOS on your Board, it was worked well.
but when I used and compiled Intel Atom® Processor E3900 Series Release, it has the problem of booting.
https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/uefi-firmware-project-for-intel-atom-processor-e3900-series-processor-platforms

Is Source code different? I'm using Download Object Modules 0.71.
Could I get BIOS source code to work well or be optimized?
Because even if UPBOARDA.X64.0071.R01.1809030927.bin (UEFI x64 firmware, release mode) is used, it's not working. It seems that it is also different to orginal BIOS.
Please help me. Thank you.

Hi,
I am entering this world of up boards recently and I'm really interested in one of these boards:

However I would like to clarify some questions before purchasing any of your products.
1 - The UP Squared with the celeron Duo is compatible with OpenVINO? I can run OpenVINO through that CPU?
2 - The UP Squared with the ATOMx7 comes with a ubuntu image. This image comes with all dependencies and requirements to run OpenVINO, Intel Movidius stick, etc?
3 - Can I buy a UP squared pack (active cooler, power supply)? I have seen in the catalog a Up pack but comes with only the Up board and not the squared version.
4 - Can I put a Windows 10 or Windows 10 IoT Core instead of Ubuntu in this Up Squared board?

Thanks,
César.

Hi all!

I'm Jamie from the UK. Before I begin must say I love this website especially the 'Unboxing & Project Sharing' part of the forum, some of the creations are fascinating and I had not even noticed the need for some of them!

So a little background, I'm from the UK as I mentioned, a retired (or shall we say, career change as I am only in my 30's?!) Commercial Pilot and currently in the Property game as a Developer and landlord. Recently I/we have started installing Home Automation in products into houses in both the ones I own/renovate and also for clients who desire the 'things' in their homes.

The system I work with is called Elan Home Systems and is very good but it could be better and they welcome third-party hardware manufacturers to integrate products into the platform. These can range from manufactuers such as Hayward Industries (Swiming Pool Control) to Sonos (Multi-Zone Music). From a installers view I can see what customers want and also where Elan and other high-end (£15K-£20+*) home automation systems (Control4, Savant, RTi, Creston etc) are lacking in terms of projects and interactions so if anyone has any questions then please let me know via this thread or PM if its private.

The 'internet of things' (IoT) and home automation is expanding at such a rate that platforms like UP and other similar product/frameworks have huge potential at tapping into this market. There are two building blocks to Home Automation like most markets, open and closed, and when I mean closed I mean very closed. Some of the wonderful open source projects you may have heard of such as openHAB, Home Assistant, Domotics, etc. In some aspects, they are better than the preparatory systems as there is more testing and development because it's freely available when the ones I deal with are a very close nit and DIY installs using the hardware are not possible due to the software configuration tools not being in the public domain.

Anyhow, for some time I have had a product (Video/Media related) in mind for the home automation systems, not just Elan. I have been scratching my head wondering where is the best place to find some people about this idea, then I remembered this forum!

Anyhow, I have waffled on loads so I will get to the point...I'm looking for some developers (hardware and software) for a project. If you are interested then please fire me a private message. The intended software for the base of the project is open source and distributed under the GNU General Public License. The hardware required for it is already available but needs to be tied together and be stable (stability is very important). AS mentioned Its media/video related.

Many thanks,

Jamie

This project follows the logic that “dad built a unique computer especially for me” feels so much better than “dad bought me a pc”…
The original idea was born around the Raspberry PI, however I quickly realised that I would need a much powerful engine… and the UP Board came about.
It is made of laser-cut Plexiglas (bent with the air gun of my soldering station), a 13 inch full HD screen+controller board off ebay, a home made Li-ion battery pack, a difficult-to-find Li-ion charging controller that allows simultaneously charging and using the battery, a self-designed power board to handle startup/shutdown logic and the 5V/12V needs. The spare space was intended for an SSD but as USB3 has issues I gave up for the moment..
Software is a Mac-flavoured Ubuntu with UP kernel and loads of cool software including Snap4Arduino and a home built wifi connected board with plenty of sensors for experiments on IoT.
The design is rather pleasant and I personally don’t think the pictures do justice as the transparency is difficult to capture.
My son loves it so I thought of sharing… should anyone be interested in the details, feel free to drop me a message.https://downloader.vip/rightmove/ downloader.vip/kijiji/ downloader.vip/quizlet/

I am new to open source world. I recently installed Ubuntu 18.04, after getting tired from windows errors. But it seems Ubuntu 18.04 is in very beginning stage or it is not suited with my machine (Asus x550l) or I did some mistake while installing Ubuntu (or probably installing it was a mistake.)

The problems are

my pad and mouse clicks become non responding, keyboard keeps on working but clicks can't be made. And frequency of this problem is increasing with time. Only solution I found was restarting and these days I am restarting in every hour or two.

I am unable to use numeric keypad. Even with external keyboards, they are non responsive. I have tried multiple keyboard settings but couldn't solve it.

I tried installing anaconda, there were some errors. Now I can't reinstall or uninstall it.

I wanted to uninstall dark table but it isn't shown in ubuntu software.

Firefox doesn't allow to login in many websites. It seems to be in built and I can't see it installed in Ubuntu software.

Any suggestions..??

So, my PC is having issues and I’ve decided on a clean install. I feel like some of those issues were attributed to me not configuring and setting up windows properly, like for example, my audio driver was not working properly.

Can someone recommend the steps I should take with installing drivers, disabling Windows 10 junk etc? Most YouTube videos I’ve watched have comments saying that the methods on there are flawed and done by people who don’t know what they’re talking about.

Hi,

Looking to buy the UP2. Had a few questions regarding the supported low power states:
1) Is sleep state (S3 or S0i3) working on the board with android?
2) What are the other low power states supported by the hardware and are all of them functional in android too ?
3) I understand that for proper low power support, BIOS support is essential. Which states are supported by the current BIOS release ?
4) Is the BIOS source open, can it be re-built and flashed ?

Thanks,

I'm in the planning phase of multiple projects; home network with HTPC, 2 NAS, ...turn old laptop into media streaming device,...and for my reason here an auto PC. I was originally going to use a Raspberry Pi, but then decided to use a LattePanda. But, I saw a video that compared the LattePanda to the Up Board and now I feel the Up Board will be better for my application. I understand the Up2 has the same GPIO pin out as the RaspPi which helps my project go a bit smoother in terms of sending audio to the processors from a hat. Now I need to decide on OS, power, peripherals, Arduino, etc. I'll be asking a ton of questions, so any input will be appreciated.

Hi every body.
this message is written to up board technicocommercial team.
For the project i'm working on now, I need a x86 cpu which can run windows and have direct acces to at least 20 gpio pins.

I've tried Lattepanda but the problem is that, with lattepanda, we can't acces directly to gpio this has to be done through serial communication with the arduino leonardo which is attached on the lattepanda.

My question : with up board, do we have direct acces to gpio ( like a memory cell) and if yes, do you sell an upboard with windows 10 installed, including licence?

Thanks for your reply

Hello.

Hi nice to see another interesting maker board on the market. I just took delivery of my Up2, I went for the celeron version since I have been building a collection of SBC's with a condition that all cost under 100euros (KS price). the Pentium version went a bit out of that limit

I'm mainly interested in using SBC's as educational tools to teach programming, especially games and graphics programming as they can effectively be considered small consoles with restricted resources I consider SBC's to be good foundation systems for new programmers who want to make inroads into the commercially restricted console genre.

Im especially looking forward to playing with the GPU on this, as it promises to be the most powerful of all the credit card (pushing it a bit here but...) SBC's.

I'll have to get hold of a power unit for it, and then install an OS, but in the mean time I'll read up on others experiences and see what's what.

Hi,
My name's Nick, I am a high school student from Poland.
I'm interested with physics and math (doesn't mean I'm good at them). My hobby's robotics.
After making myself a littlebit familliar with the Raspberry Pi board I came to a conclusion that it's power will be insufficient for what I wanted to use it for.
I was also looking for a stereoscopic 3D camera with IR to my project, so I found Intel RealSense cameras. It appears that they're still low-res cameras - gonna be waiting for some newer models. At least 1080p IR (night vision).
And of course I know I could use a PC to process all data but I think it will be more interesting with a small, powerful PC onboard a robot.
So it seems that everything led to the Intel RDK and to the UP boards.
And here I am... With a couple of questions to you.

Glad to be here!

There nice and all, but you can not install any other OS other than Win 10, no way to put in better heatsink nor fan, limited USB Ports, and they have a weaker Atom CPU. I am planing in the next few months to order several of these boards to see just what I can do with these boards like:
using old OS like Windows 7 (and older), ReactOS, DOS (even FreeDOS,)etc.
Putting in larger heatsinks and fans (maybe try overclocking)
Emulator and Classic Game testing.
I have two project s right now that this board may just be perfect for. For a 2 years now I have been trying to get a system up and running that will allow people that are bed ridden, and or in a nursing home to be able to communicate with loved ones (or anyone else ,) watch live streams of there church (or other religious) services, and stay entertained to lift there spirits up. Yet keep the system super simple to understand and use.

The other project involves our states (Arkansas) mandate for programing class in the schools, but that one is starting a non-profit organization, but if that is all I can say for now.
so for now I will be looking or asking a ton of questions before I get the boards, and after I get some boards I will be posting a lot of the results here.

well thanks for reading.

Hey everyone.

I'm from the UK, and before you say, I consider myself 100% European

Anyway, I don't have an Up yet, but hope to be ordering one very soon. I've used C# .NET Python, a little C/C++. I'm not Linux minded at all, it's not that I don't think it's good, but I have been a Microsoft boy from my small days and all the way through my professional life - I've never HAD to use it. I want to explore the possibilities the mighty Atom CPU can provide for a full Windows OS images and I'd like to share my work with the community, but I'm not sure that Microsoft would be happy for me to do that, will have to investigate further.

Looking forward to the journey

Hi I am from the Netherlands and received my UP-Board a week ago.
Since long I was looking for a nice solution to decrease the load average on my Synology NAS (> 1).
Now thanks to the UP board that has been solved.
It runs on Ubuntu (normal desktop version) and hosts Couchpotato, Sickrage and SABnzbd+.
The files are downloaded, unpacked and moved to the NAS.
The board it self handles everything with ease. The board itself lives in the utility closet.

Hello all!

Glad to finally see the community open! Just got notification that my order will be on it's way in May. Just wanted to drop by and share my plans for the UP board, and to document my projects/experimentation once my boards arrive and I'm able to dig in a bit further.
Initial experiments:
-Slipstreamed minimal installs of Windows XP, Windows 7, which boot directly to a specific program (like a console or a touch program)
-Getting QB64 (http://www.qb64.net/) working with the GPIO pins and an LCD screen (why? for that retro/vintage look!)
-Boot screen customization? Not sure what the bios looks like, but can I change the boot screen for embedded applications?
-Using the UP as the brain for various movie props and art projects which will be further detailed!

Looking forward to it everyone.

I hail from the Pacific Northwest US (PNW) and am excited to begin using my reward as a replacement for my 3D printers remote host controller. My hope is to be able to port some existing software used on an RPi2, as well as to extend it with some remote model editing/support/slicing web tools.

I am a long time Linux/Uni* user/admin/developer and expect to have some fun with this new platform and OS as well.

Looking forward to my UP board arriving (departed Amsterdam today)

Hi!

I've received the UP Board this week, and just plugged it in.
I have a background in web development and microcontrollers (Arduino and STM32). In the past I worked a bit with Unix servers in context of web projects. Currently, I am writing a book about Node.js for Embedded Systems see http://embeddednodejs.com . Also, I run a meetup on Embedded Systems, see http://munich-arduino.de. So, if anyone visits Munich and wants to get in touch that would be great.

The UPBoard looks nice for Multimedia projects and for running the latest Node.js versions (e.g. with nvm ).

Now, I am going to play a bit more with the board!

Cheers,

Patrick

PS Oh, and I work for Intel in a lab for component verification.
