I want to develop my own driver for my devices attached to like GPIOs, for example. I want to know the mapped address. Windows and Linux are the target OSes. Where can I find this information and all other related one? I have the UP Squared series board.

My first attempt to power the board with a powerbank didn't work, it keeps booting because I guess the power is not high enough for the board. I used this battery:

Right now, I am considering buying a new power bank, but I haven't found so far a suitable one.
Additionally, I read that a powerbank is made for batteries and not board, thus it could damage it if the current or voltage reach a certain level.
Another question is whether the adapter cable can handle enough current.

I would be glad if someone already managed to use such board on a drone and share his solution.

This may be a basic question for many of you, but I’m relatively new to UP Squared.

I have an UP Squared Board that’s currently being powered with the standard 5V@6A power adapter. Given the portability of this device, I’m trying to find a way to power this device with a battery.

I found these two products:

1. I installed Windows 10 Pro on each UpBoard and when they start them, I don’t see the same opening screen. On the first, I see the Windows Logo and on the other, I see the blue UP2 logo

   Could you tell me why I don’t see the same behavior ?

I saw that GPIO pins are connected to an FPGA and the IO state must be redefined in the BIOS setting. Is it possible to change the GPIO state on the software/OS side?

what is the tolerance on the gpio pins ? can i put 5v on them or max 3.3 volt

• Although the M.2 Specification (section 5.1.2) declares E-key sockets provide two instances of PCIe x1, most manufacturers provide only one. To use both Edge TPUs, be sure your socket connects both instances to the host.

Today, I tried the converter which caused smoking, the board smoke again. Then I connected another converter, no LED is on. I guess maybe some Components of the board are broken, though the board seems perfectly normal from the outside.

Has UP planned for SKUs without eMMC?

If the board is able to boot from SSD (is it?), in some applications the eMMC would end up being just unnecessary BOM.

Scenario 1: plugging the DC jack into the UP Squared then putting the wall adapter into the power outlet, this way you get a controlled DC rampup from the power adapter (non hot plug)

Scenario 2: plugging the wall adapter into the power outlet and then into the DC jack or, if a reboot is required, pulling out and reincerting the DC jack with the wall adapter still in the outlet. This way you 'hot plug' a live 5V rail into the DC jack that could lead to induced voltage spikes and extra stress on the input circuit.

I am asking because the UP Squared does not have a power switch so I assume a lot of customers (at least I do) reboot or start there UP under scenario 2.

I need to use the capacitor data used inside UpSquared to be able to make some calculations about power issues? How can I reach capacitor data inside?

In datasheet, power supply voltage is written 5 volt DC. My question is that what is the maximum and minimum limits? For example can I give 6 Volt,4 Volt,7volt? I tried to give 5.5, 5.3 Volt and there is no problem. What are the limits and what are the warnings if I give more than 5V?

For example, my main battery is not able to power my UpSquare anymore and need to switch back-up battery. My question is that how many minimum miliseconds are needed to switch time because I dont want my UpSquared to shut down.

In order to figure out this issue, i need to know what sort of network device is being used in this board? (Like, for Intel's Leaf Hill reference board, it's Intel Ethernet Controller I210). I couldn't find this sort of information on the UP wiki pages.

I've been playing with up^2 board for some time and lately found an issue with rtc clock - my cr2032 battery has been discharged, and I had to replace it (wrong date/time caused issues with i2c and my oled display was having issues because of that).
RTC is now working, however I've got to thinking - can I replace the normal 2032 battery with some kind of rechargable battery/accumulator which could be charged during device is powered on?
Any ideas, examples?

It has been a while since UP Squared was introduced. Thanks to your support, we are doing all fine. In fact, UP Squared was selected by Intel as IoT and AI development platform. We got more and more requests to make it more industrialized.

We are thinking to bring a new UP Squared to you by adding on something we missed and removing something you didn't need.

What happens if both units are say plugged in at the same time. I am working on a use case were i would need to have the ability to use either module depending on the situation.
I don't trust the operators to know, to only plug in poe or the 12vdc. (actually i assume if theres an open port, an operator will plug something in to it, regardless of directions)

Ideally i would hope the UPS/wide range DC hat would be primary power source and the POE would only be used when there was no other power.

please what is the maximum external disks (SSD, SATA) attached to up squared? So far I succeded to get working only 3 disks accessible in Ubuntu at the same time:
1. mSata
2. single port USB 3.0
3. first of dual USB 3.0 ports
If I attach at the same time also to second port of USB 3.0 and/or USB 3.0 OTG - these disks are either not visible or not properly working.
I am using also 2xUSB 2.0 cable for Keyboard

Also utilizing mPCIe (mSata) and M2.2230 would be nice but I am expecting slower speed compared to USB3.0 (e.g. each disk is benchmarked for cca.500MB/s read).

I would like to use my Up Squared in a mobile way. That is, I won't have access to a power outlet.

I have several batteries at my disposal, but I'm wondering if it is possible to know the range of input voltages that can be applied to the power DC jack. Also, is there another way of powering the board than using the jack ?

On UP^2 at system start all the pin in the hat connector are configured in function mode.

So for example the hat pin 3 associated with I2C_SDA function at start is configured as an I2C channel

You can switch the function after booting accessing the gpio pin using linux sysfs gpio interface. For example the following commands will blink an led connected to pin 13 :

We've been having problems with our Up Squared boards locking up after being left on for long periods (1-2 days), and are trying to diagnose if it's a problem with the power supply we're using (a Mean Well RD-85A). I was wondering if there was any info on what range of jitter is acceptable on the 5V power jack, or how far above or below 5V the the supply can go, so I can know what to look for while testing the supply. I looked through the specifications but couldn't find anything. Thanks!

I'm trying to get the RFID reader pn532 to work with my Up2 board. I have connected the reader via the GrovePi board and need to add two GPIO pins to the controller. The Intel upm/mraa libraries require such as setup. See https://github.com/intel-iot-devkit/upm/issues/677

The value has been set to 1 correctly, but the LED is not on.
I tried with mraa-gpio too, and with mraa-gpio list shows No pins.

I tried to install the kernel for up-board according to https://wiki.up-community.org/Ubuntu#Install_Ubuntu_kernel_for_UP_from_PPA. But when I type uname -a, it always shows Linux upboard-UP-APL01 4.14.20-041420-generic #201802162247 SMP Fri Feb 16 22:48:07 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

So I wonder how much power do the board drain in different power states?

If I don't have any external devices connected how much would the board drain at:
Max usage (benchmark of CPU/GPU)
Idle (Ubuntu 18.04 idle)
Suspended to RAM

Is there a chart where I can see how much power each internal device drains?

If the power consumption is high (more then 250mW) in suspended mode, can I lower it?

I can deduce from the pinouts that this support PCIe, USB, UART, and what looks like i2c communication over the M2 E key connection. What I see missing is SDIO. Am I correct in thinking an SDIO M2 card/chip will not work? What about i2c? Or is that some other protocol intended for the SMBus lines. Anything else I'm missing in the capabilities of this port?

I'm still thinking about building a NAS with the up squared and want to limit the number of power socket used as i was originally thinking of a JBOD but i can't seem to find one where people don't have issues.

I can see there are mini pice -> 4x sata boards that would fit my needs so this is fine, the issue comes from power.

The easiest would be to use an ATX power supply so i can power the board and the disks but could i use that to power the up board ? is it as simple as using an ATX breakout board then link the 5V+ to a power jack i can put in the up squared ? It seems that an ATX +5v can deliver 30+A which obviously is more than enough but is it going to fry the board or is there some sort of regulator on the board itself ?

I'm planning to use an eSata JBOD enclosure (not sure which yet) because accodring to few forums i read it's better to use esata over usb3 for stability and hard disk feature support.

Though, i'm not sure which way i should go about it. It seems that the computer needs to support SATA multiplication (can't remember the exact term) to be able to run multiple SATA drives out of a single port.

If this is possible with the up squared, what would be the way ? Get a sata to eSata cable and use the on board sata port or use a pcie card that has an eSata port ?
I'm looking for stability rather than performance.

It seems that there is a '10 pin header' exposing the SoC UART interface, termed 'UART port 0' and combined with some USB2.0 interfaces.

If the hardware is indeed Opensource, please make the schematic and layout available to Opensource hardware engineers like me, working in Kicad or another FOSS CAD application.

The schematic should include a specification for the part number associated with the '10 pin header' which is obviously a poor description. A layout with 3D model for footprints would help as well. Are the contacts on this white coloured connector 3mm long and the pin pitch 1,27mm or something else?

Please publish a bill of materials like all other Opensource projects do. I've (1) looked through the specifications [1], (2) searched (with no results) for header, (3) searched (with no results) for bill of materials, and just to be sure I searched (4) GitHub for any instance of up-board and up-squared repositories.

The bill of materials should contain the information leading to users being able to locate and purchase a cable that correctly plugs into the '10 pin header' connector. If there is a well known cable for this purpose, please indicate in this thread what the manufacturer, model, and part number is.

We're spending untold amounts of time trying to solve ridiculous problems, which doesn't reflect well on the quality of Up boards.
